Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen was a natural athlete and was a fan of tough athletic games. Her natural ability to perform perfectly complemented her love of sports. She took home almost all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama that her country had to provide. As a teenager, she had been accepted to the Abbey Theater, where her fascination with classical theater and operatic music was pursued. This course was to be altered, however, when Charles Laughton, after seeing a screen test of Maureen and was mesmerized by her hauntingly beautiful eyes. In the days before she was cast to play in Jamaica Inn (1939), Laughton and his partner, Erich Pommer, changed her name from Maureen FitzSimons to "Maureen O'Hara" - a bit smaller last name to fit the marquee. Maureen was contracted by Laughton for her upcoming movie in America with RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1939). Maureen had the opportunity to purchase her contract with Laughton following the film's success. hugely successful. Maureen Laughton had been on two motion-pictures when she was 19.
